Mary Webb, was born in London in 1942. She studied at the fine art department of the University of Newcastle 1958-1963, under Victor Pasmore (1908-1998) and Richard Hamilton (1922-2011), gaining a Hatton Scholarship 1962-1963 and a B.A. honours degree, then taking a postgraduate course at Chelsea School of Art. Head of pre-diploma studies at Harrogate School of Art 1964-1966 and a part-time lecturer in painting at Norwich School of Art 1966-1973 and a senior lecturer 1973-1990.Webb met Sonia Delaunay in Paris during the 1960s and cites her as an influence and her paintings and prints are consistently square in shape and exist as an arrangement of vivid squares and rectangles.

Mary won the Northern Arts Print Award 1970 and 1984, Eastern Arts Award 1991, Eastern Arts Award for travel and research in Portugal 2004 and Arts Council Award for travel and research in Italy. Mary has had several mixed exhibitions including at Hatton Gallery University of Newcastle and the Royal Academy Summer Exhibitions as well as solo exhibitions throughout the country, the most recent and quite spectacular one being held at The Sainsbur y Centre for Visual Ar ts, UEA, Norwich which was accompanied by a beautifully illustrated edition namely, Mary Webb ,Journeys in Colour.
